Sports Skills ages 2.5-3 (by Jan 11th).
Sports Skills - Children are taught not only basic sports skills using play-based instruction but also sportsmanship and teamwork.
Track ages 4-18 (by Jan 11th).
Track - Participants will be exposed to the 200m, 400m, 800m and the 4x100m relay. Please note that we will NOT be running on a track but rather a sidewalk or trail. Children are taught not only how to run and increase their endurance but also sportsmanship and teamwork.
Velocity Track & Field introduces youth to a variety of running events in a fun, encouraging environment. Participants learn proper running techniques, pacing, event-specific skills, and the fundamentals of Track through age-appropriate practices and meets.
The program welcomes athletes of all abilities, from first-time participants to experienced runners looking to continue developing their skills. Events are designed to encourage participation, skill development, and personal improvement in a positive recreational setting.
The Impact
Track & Field is more than running and jumping—it's an opportunity for youth and families to develop healthy habits, discover the value of perseverance, and experience the satisfaction of achieving personal goals. Every athlete progresses at their own pace while learning that success is measured by personal improvement, consistent effort, and encouraging others along the way.
Participants have the opportunity to:
Unlike many youth sports programs, Velocity's Track & Field program encourages family involvement. Parents volunteer as coaches, event helpers, and meet supporters, creating opportunities for shared accomplishments, stronger family relationships, and meaningful community connections.
Family-Centered Programming
Unlike many youth sports programs, Velocity is not a drop-off program. Parents remain onsite and play an active role by coaching, assisting with practices, or supporting the team in other volunteer roles.
This family-centered approach strengthens relationships, builds a supportive community, and creates a positive environment where every child is encouraged both on and off the field.
Coaches Needed
Registration will not open until we have enough coaches. If you wish to coach please send us an email ASAP info@velocitycolorado.com
Season - Mondays
Our 8 week season runs from Monday, January 11th- Monday, March 8th. No practice on MLK day.
Mondays at 11 am. We will have two timed meets/races.
Practice runs for ~30-75 minutes. Length of practice based on age. The meets might run longer depending on how many kids sign up.
Schedule Breakdown
Weeks 1, 2 & 3: Intro to running their race distance. Fun running and endurance games.
Week 4: Meet 1. The meet will run shortest distance to longest distance. Younger kids will run first followed by the older ages. All kids should plan on arriving at 10:50am and staying to cheer for all age groups. Sports skills will start the meet off with a short untimed dash along the sidewalk. Then continue their practice.
Weeks 5, 6 & 7: Running games/practice.
Week 8: Meet 2. Trying to improve their own time. The meet will run shortest distance to longest distance. The younger kids will run first followed by the older ages. All kids should plan on arriving at 10:50am and staying to cheer for all age groups. Sports skills will start the meet off with a short untimed dash along the sidewalk. Then continue their practice.
Distances
Track - Each child will have the option of competing in the 200m, 400m, 800m and/or 4x100m relay. They can choose to compete in just one or all of the events. We recommend they compete in the same distances for both meets but that is not required.
As these are shorter track distances, your child should be able to run/jog the entire distance without walking. If they can not run the entire 400m or 800m we recommend they register to run the 200m to start.
You will need to register for each event so we know who to plan for, for each distance.
